1. Purpose

These Online Learning Standards set out the expectations for student conduct and engagement when participating in online training and assessment delivered by The Institute of EI ([INSERT RTO CODE]). They apply to all students who access any online platform, tool, or resource provided by the Institute.

2. Scope

These standards apply to all online learning activities including:

  • The Institute’s learning management system (LMS)
  • Live virtual sessions (webinars, video calls, online workshops)
  • Online assessments and submissions
  • Discussion forums, messaging tools, and collaborative online spaces
  • Email communication with trainers and staff

3. Technical Requirements

To participate effectively in online learning, students are expected to have access to:

  • A reliable internet connection
  • A device capable of running the LMS and required applications (computer or tablet recommended)
  • A current web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge — latest versions)
  • A functional microphone and camera for live sessions where required
  • [INSERT — any specific software or applications required for particular courses]

Students experiencing significant technical difficulties should contact the Institute at the earliest opportunity.

4. Account and Access

  • Students are responsible for maintaining the security of their LMS login credentials.
  • Login details must not be shared with any other person.
  • If you believe your account has been compromised, notify the Institute immediately.
  • Access to the LMS is provided for the duration of your enrolment and may be revoked in cases of misconduct or withdrawal.

5. Conduct in Online Environments

All online interactions must reflect the Institute’s Code of Conduct. Specifically:

  • Treat all participants, trainers, and staff with respect and courtesy
  • Use professional and appropriate language at all times
  • Do not record live sessions without the explicit consent of all participants
  • Do not share or distribute session recordings, course content, or other students’ contributions without permission
  • Do not engage in behaviour that is disruptive, offensive, discriminatory, or harassing
  • Ensure your background and conduct are appropriate when appearing on camera

6. Academic Integrity

  • All assessment tasks submitted must be your own original work.
  • The use of AI tools to generate assessment responses is not permitted unless explicitly stated by your trainer.
  • Collaboration on individual assessments is not permitted unless explicitly indicated.
  • Any form of plagiarism, contract cheating, or misrepresentation of your work will be treated as a serious breach and may result in cancellation of enrolment.

7. Engagement and Participation

  • Students are expected to engage with all course activities, modules, and resources within the required timeframes.
  • If you are unable to participate due to illness or personal circumstances, notify your trainer as soon as possible.
  • [INSERT — specify any minimum participation requirements for live sessions]

8. Online Assessment Conditions

  • Some assessments must be completed under supervised conditions. Instructions will be provided where this applies.
  • Ensure your work is saved and submitted correctly — the Institute is not responsible for lost submissions due to technical issues on the student’s end.
  • Assessment submissions must be in the format specified by your trainer.

9. Copyright and Intellectual Property

Course materials provided via the LMS are for your personal educational use only. You must not:

  • Share, reproduce, or distribute course materials to third parties
  • Upload course materials to external websites or platforms
  • Use course materials for commercial purposes

10. Breaches of These Standards

Breaches may result in a formal warning, restricted LMS access, or suspension or cancellation of enrolment. Students have the right to appeal in accordance with the Complaints & Appeals Policy.
